Our History

The Apache Closet was founded in December, 2006, through the kindness of my friends.  I was overwhelmed by the huge number of donations of clothing that they gave me. I discussed the situation with Mrs. Parkinson, SHS librarian, and came up with the idea of helping students in need of clothing, as well as their families. We were trying to find a perfect name for the project when the word closet crossed our minds, but there was something missing. Who does the closet belong to? To the Apaches of course! The project became officially  “The Apache Closet.” The concept was presented to Mr. Chacon and he liked the idea. A private room, off the main floor of the library, is available for selecting and trying on clothes whenever students families need help. This project continues to be supported by my friends and the staff and students at Sanger High School.
